IGN was among a group of journalists invited to visit the set of Ghost Whisperer last week, and take a behind the scenes tour of the hit CBS show, which stars Jennifer Love Hewitt as Melinda, a woman who can see and speak to ghosts, helping them tie up loose ends and cross over to the other side.

Executive producer Ian Sander gave us a personal tour of the sets, located on the Universal Studios backlot, beginning with the interiors for the home where Melinda and her husband Jim (David Conrad) live. Sander noted that the cast of Ghost Whisperer was particularly friendly and nice, and that having worked on other projects, "I know the difference!"

We were then brought to the town square set seen on the series, which has been featured in many movies, but is best known as the central Hill Valley set from the Back to the Future trilogy, where the clock tower was located. While the buildings have all been drastically altered, a good look at the area can't help but evoke memories of Marty driving the delorean, as Doc Brown frantically tries to reconnect the unhooked cable. Extremely intriguing was the fact that the town square set was covered in several overturned and smashed up cars, which was a plot point that will be shown on the two-part season finale, which was being shot during our visit.

After that, we traveled to the Ghost Whisperer offices, where Sander was joined by his fellow executive producer Kim Moses and we were shown the first two episodes of the new webisodes series, Ghost Whisperer: The Other Side, which can be viewed at www.cbs.com/ghost. The web series stars a character named Zach, and Sander and Moses revealed that he will play an important role in the season two finale. The producers noted that they have a large online presence for the series, frequently monitoring fan feedback, and having James Van Praagh -- the real life "ghost whisperer" who produces and consults on the series -- speak to fans on the website. In fact, Sander noted that Ghost Whisperer is the only series he's aware of who have an entire department devoted to their online component.

We were then brought back to the soundstages, where Jennifer Love Hewitt joined us for a round table type discussion about Ghost Whisperer and her character. As we began, Moses and Sander noted how much Hewitt, as the central lead, works on the series, putting in 16 hour days, five days a week, for nine months straight.
